Five Cattle Rescued From Illegal Slaughter Setup in Kamptee; One Arrested

Nagpur: New Kamptee Police rescued five cattle allegedly kept illegally for slaughter in inhuman conditions at Kamgar Nagar in Kamptee and arrested one accused in connection with the case.


The action was carried out on Thursday evening following a tip-off received by the police patrol team.


According to police, the team received credible information that bovine animals were being confined for slaughter outside the residence of Sheikh Javed, son of Yunus Mohammad, in Kamgar Nagar area of Kamptee.


Acting on the information, police reached the spot and conducted a search in the presence of panch witnesses. During the inspection, officers found five cattle, including small and large bovine animals, allegedly tied in a cramped space without food or water and kept in cruel conditions for illegal slaughter.


Police identified the accused as Sohail Ahmed Ansari (25), a resident of Parsi Pura Maidan near a public well in Kamgar Nagar, and Sheikh Javed Yunus Mohammad (25), a resident of Kamgar Nagar, Kamptee.


The police seized all five cattle collectively valued at around Rs 45,000 from the spot. The rescued animals were later shifted to a gaushala in Kamptee for care and protection.


Based on a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Srushti Kadam, a case has been registered at New Kamptee Police Station under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976, amended in 1995, along with provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.


Police have arrested accused Sohail Ahmed Ansari, while a search is underway for the second accused. Further investigation is in progress
