Nagpur: A truck driver has been arrested after a fatal road accident in Koradi police limits in which a pedestrian lost his life late Sunday night.

Police said the incident occurred around 11.40 pm on April 26 near Sai Medical, Mahadula Chowk service road. The victim, identified as Firoz alias Pirya Shankar Pitkar, 45, resident of Jawahar Nagar, Mahadula, was walking on foot when a speeding truck bearing registration number RJ-11-GC-9345 allegedly hit him.

The truck was allegedly being driven rashly and negligently by Dharmendra Gangaram Danav, 26, a resident of Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s son Arjun Firoz Pitkar, Koradi Police Station registered an offence under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act. The accused driver has been arrested and further probe is in progress.
