Nagpur: In a swift midnight operation, Sonegaon Police arrested a man allegedly roaming with a deadly weapon in the Sonegaon area of Nagpur.
According to police, at around 12.30 am on April 27, a patrol team received credible information that a man was moving suspiciously with a weapon near Hanuman Mandir, Ujwal Nagar, Plot No. 40, Layout No. 03, Wardha Road, Sonegaon.
Acting immediately, police rushed to the spot and noticed a man matching the description carrying a weapon in his hand. On seeing the police, he attempted to flee but was chased down and detained.
Police identified the accused as Surendra Vasantrao Mendule, 50, resident of Somalwada, Nagpur. A steel sickle worth approximately Rs 150 was seized from his possession.
Police said the accused was carrying the weapon allegedly with intent to commit a cognizable offence and had also violated prohibitory orders.
A case has been registered at Sonegaon Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Hatyar Kanoon and Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation is underway.
