Nagpur: The Nagpur City Police have registered a criminal case against a motorcycle rider following a fatal road accident under the jurisdiction of Lakadganj Police Station.

According to police, the accident took place around 10.45 pm on May 11 on the new bridge at Old Bhandara Road. The deceased, identified as Vedant Ishwar Budhe (20), a resident of Navi Shukrawari near Karnalbagh Masjid, was riding pillion on an R-15 motorcycle (MH-49-CG-3121) driven by his friend Chaitanya Randhir Jachak (28), a resident of Sakkardara.

Police said the rider allegedly drove the motorcycle at high speed in a rash and negligent manner before crashing into a Splendor motorcycle near Mehta Petrol Pump. Due to the impact, Vedant was thrown off the bike and sustained critical injuries.

He was admitted to Ramdeobaba Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead around 12.30 pm on May 12 during treatment.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother Arpit Ishwar Budhe (25), Lakadganj Police registered a case on May 18 against accused rider Chaitanya Randhir Jachak under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
