Nagpur: The Nagpur Division of Central Railway has taken a major step towards enhancing passenger convenience and station modernisation with the introduction of a Smart Digital Locker facility at Nagpur Railway Station. A contract for this facility has been awarded for a period of three years, aiming to provide passengers with a secure, modern and fully automated luggage storage solution.

Under this initiative, state-of-the-art digital lockers have been installed near the Upper Class Waiting Hall concourse. Passengers can store their luggage independently using an OTP and QR code-based system, without the need for staff assistance. The entire process, including payment, is completely digital and cashless, ensuring transparency, speed and ease of use.

The Smart Digital Locker facility offers improved security, quicker service and greater convenience compared to the conventional cloakroom system. In addition to enhancing passenger amenities, the facility will also contribute to the generation of Non-Fare Revenue for the Railways, reflecting Central Railway’s focus on technology-driven solutions for an improved passenger experience.

The approved user charges are as follows: for Medium-size lockers, ₹55 for 4 hours, ₹70 for 6 hours and ₹120 for 24 hours; for Large-size lockers, ₹70 for 4 hours, ₹100 for 6 hours and ₹150 for 24 hours; and for Extra Large lockers, ₹100 for 4 hours, ₹150 for 6 hours and ₹250 for 24 hours. The approved rate chart will be prominently displayed at visible locations within the station for passenger information.

In addition to Nagpur Railway Station, the auction process for introducing the Smart Digital Locker facility is also scheduled at Wardha, Chandrapur and Ballarshah Railway Stations.
