Nagpur: Bajaj Nagar Police have cracked a mobile phone theft case reported from Laxminagar Chowk and arrested two accused, including a minor girl, while recovering stolen property worth ₹1.45 lakh.
According to police, the complainant, Hitesh Sevaram Notwani (34), a resident of Sindhi Colony, Khamla, approached Bajaj Nagar Police Station and reported that an iPhone 13 Pro Max (green colour), valued at around ₹40,000, was stolen from his mobile shop “Phone For You” located at Laxminagar Chowk. The theft occurred on January 5, 2026, between 11 am and 11.30 am, when the accused entered the shop and fled with the phone. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Bajaj Nagar Police Station.
Following the directions of senior officials, the detection branch team launched an investigation. Police questioned the complainant and scrutinised CCTV footage from nearby shops, which revealed that the accused had arrived on an Activa scooter bearing registration number MH-31 GC 1282. Using the vehicle details, police traced a mobile number and tracked the suspects through mobile location data.
Acting on the inputs, police laid a trap and apprehended the accused identified as Umesh Dnyaneshwar Gadge (28) and a 13-year-old minor girl, both residents of Indira Mata Nagar, behind Raisoni College, near Hendway Kirana Store, under the jurisdiction of MIDC Police Station. Investigations revealed that the duo committed the theft together.
Police seized the Activa scooter used in the crime, valued at approximately ₹1 lakh, a used Vivo Y56 mobile phone worth around ₹5,000, and the stolen iPhone 13 Pro Max valued at ₹40,000. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹1.45 lakh.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gurav (Sonegaon Division), and Senior Police Inspector C.B. Chouhan of Bajaj Nagar Police Station. The action was executed by the Bajaj Nagar Police investigation team comprising PSI Shivaji Borkar, HC Chandrashekhar Tarale, PCs Yogeshwar Gayakwad, Santosh, Surendra Shede, WPC Rani Karade, and WPC Swati Irpachi.
Further investigation in the case is underway, police said.
