Nagpur: Pachpaoli Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly possessing an illegal foreign-made firearm and a live cartridge in Nagpur.
According to police officials, the arrest was made during an early morning operation conducted by the Pachpaoli Police detection team based on specific intelligence received from a confidential informant.
At around 4.30 am on June 2, police personnel reached Mehndibagh Corner near the railway line behind the Power House in the Pachpaoli police station limits and detained a suspicious individual.
The accused was identified as Mayur Kishor Adatiya (22), a resident of Pange Mohalla near Bahuli Well in Lalganj, Shantinagar, Nagpur.
A search conducted in the presence of witnesses led to the recovery of a foreign-made Mauser pistol, complete with a magazine and one live cartridge. The seized firearm and ammunition are collectively valued at approximately Rs 26,000.
Police suspect that the accused was carrying the weapon with the intention of committing a cognizable offence. Authorities also stated that he violated prohibitory orders currently in force.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. He has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
Police are probing the source of the firearm and whether the accused has links to any criminal activities in the city.
