Nagpur: In a large-scale crackdown on traffic violators, the Nagpur Traffic Police penalised 3,458 motorists across the city on Maharashtra Day, for allegedly breaching traffic norms. Fines amounting to Rs 3.59 lakh were collected through challans issued under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The drive was carried out on Thursday, May 1, as part of an extensive enforcement campaign led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Archit Chandak. The initiative aimed to promote safer driving practices and reduce traffic violations on city roads.
Officials said the enforcement action targeted a wide range of offences, including signal jumping, wrong-side driving, helmetless riding, and failure to carry valid documents.
Nagpur Traffic Police have appealed to all commuters to adhere to traffic rules and ensure they carry all necessary documents such as driving licenses, registration papers, insurance, and pollution certificates while on the road.
The crackdown is expected to continue in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety across the city.
