Nagpur: Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal chaired a Peace Committee meeting in Nagpur on April 1, 2025, at Agrasen Bhavan under Tehsil Police Station jurisdiction. The meeting aimed to strengthen communal harmony and ensure peaceful celebrations during upcoming festivals.

Police and Community Leaders Unite for Peace:

Organized under Nagpur Police Zone 3, the meeting brought together representatives from Tehsil, Kotwali, and Ganeshpeth police stations, along with community leaders from various religions. The primary objective was to foster unity and prevent law and order disturbances, especially in areas that had previously witnessed unrest.

The meeting, which began at 5:00 PM, saw Peace Committee members pledging their support to the police. Attendees lauded the Nagpur Police for their vigilance, emphasizing that their efforts helped avert major incidents in the Ganeshpeth and Tehsil areas. Many also praised Commissioner Dr. Singal for his strong leadership during past crises.

Key Highlights of the Peace Committee Meeting:

During the discussion, Dr. Singal stressed the importance of regular peace talks, noting that community service defines a Peace Committee member, not an identification card. He highlighted the diverse religious presence in Chitnis Park, Bhaldarpura, Hansapuri, Timki, Sheetla Mata Chowk, and Geetanjali Talkies, assuring residents that past incidents of unrest were isolated and that strict action is being taken against those who incite violence.

He also emphasized the role of citizens in preventing communal disturbances, revealing that during a past riot in Nagpur, police had to deploy 478 tear gas shells and fire four warning shots. Despite facing stone-pelting, the police managed to apprehend the rioters on the same day. He warned that those who instigated violence under the cover of darkness would not be spared, as video footage is being used to track miscreants.

Call for Unity Ahead of Festivals:

With upcoming festivals in Nagpur expected to attract large gatherings, Dr. Singal urged all communities to celebrate together peacefully. He encouraged active participation from women, youth, and children, stressing the importance of displaying unity and harmony. He commended ACP and DCP officers for their proactive approach in maintaining law and order and reassured the public that while they should not fear the police, anti-social elements must.

Top Police Officials Attend the Meeting:

The Peace Committee meeting in Nagpur was attended by top police officials, including Joint Commissioner Nisar Tamboli, Additional Commissioner Dr. Shivaji Rathod, Deputy Commissioner Mahak Swami, and Assistant Commissioner Anita More. Officers from Tehsil, Kotwali, and Ganeshpeth police stations, such as Sanjay Singh, Bharat Karade, and Manchendra Pandit, were also present.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks from ACP Anita More, reinforcing Nagpur Police’s commitment to fostering peace and unity.
