Nagpur: In a joint operation, teams from Crime Branch Units 3 and 4 of Nagpur Police raided an illegal gambling den in the Nandanvan area and booked nine individuals for allegedly participating in a gambling activity involving cash betting.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, officers conducted a raid on June 23 between 10:15 p.m. and 11:10 p.m. at a residence in Galli No. 4, Hasanbagh, under the jurisdiction of Nandanvan Police Station.
Nine Found Gambling with Playing Cards
During the raid, police allegedly found the following individuals engaged in gambling with playing cards and cash stakes:
- Siraj Ahmed Shafiq Ahmed (22)
- Mateen Sheikh Gaffar Sheikh (31)
- Ghulam Rasool Abdul Rahim (33)
- Salim Rafiq Qureshi (32)
- Junaid Sheikh Iqbal Sheikh (31)
- Sheikh Imam Sheikh Ismail (32)
- Salman Sheikh Nabbu Sheikh (31)
- Sheikh Imran Sheikh Salim (26)
- Mohammad Irshad Mohammad Aslam (30)
All the accused are residents of Hasanbagh, Nandanvan, Nagpur.
Cash, Mobile Phones Seized
Police seized:
- Cash worth ₹14,170
- Eight mobile phones of various brands
- Playing cards and other gambling-related materials
The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹1.69 lakh.
Case Registered Under Gambling Prevention Act
Based on the raid, Nandanvan Police registered a case under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. The accused have been handed over to Nandanvan Police Station along with the seized property.
Further investigation is underway.
