Nagpur: Contractual employees working under the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) continued their work stoppage protest for the third consecutive day on Saturday, demanding clearance of pending financial dues and delayed salary payments.
According to the protesting workers, payments for L and CL leave encashment have not been released for the past three months, while even last month’s salary has not yet been credited to their bank accounts.
Employees said a meeting was held a few days ago with officials of the concerned contracting company to resolve issues related to salaries and leave payments. However, no concrete decision emerged from the discussion, leading to growing dissatisfaction among workers. Following this, employees launched an indefinite work stoppage agitation from June 11, 2026.
On the third day of the protest, workers alleged that neither the administration nor the contracting company had taken any meaningful steps to resolve the issue. They also expressed disappointment with the municipal administration, claiming the matter was not being treated with the seriousness it deserved.
Protesters said delayed payments have pushed many families into financial distress despite employees continuing to perform their duties regularly. They highlighted difficulties in managing daily expenses, children’s education costs, and other household responsibilities.
The workers have warned that the agitation will continue until all pending salaries and leave-related payments are cleared. They also urged the civic administration and the contracting company to intervene immediately and resolve the issue.
The protest is being led by Powerfund Workers Union President Gaurav Meshram, Secretary Ritesh Tangde, Joint Secretary Ketan Lanjewar, and member Sunny Chandrikapure.
