Nagpur: In preparation for the upcoming monsoon season and potential emergencies such as heavy rainfall, flooding, and other natural disasters, the Nagpur district administration has intensified its disaster preparedness measures. As part of these efforts, a large-scale joint mock drill was conducted at Futala Lake on Friday to assess the readiness, coordination, and response capabilities of various emergency response agencies.
The exercise was organized under the coordination of the Nagpur District Disaster Management Authority and witnessed active participation from multiple departments, including the Police Department, Fire and Emergency Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Health Department, Home Guards, Aapda Mitra volunteers, and other concerned agencies.
Realistic Rescue and Evacuation Scenarios Simulated
The mock drill featured several emergency response scenarios designed to replicate real-life disaster situations. Demonstrations included rescue operations for drowning victims, search and rescue missions using boats, deployment of life-saving equipment, administration of first aid to injured persons at the incident site, and large-scale evacuation of citizens to safer locations.
Authorities also tested emergency communication systems, control room operations, information-sharing mechanisms, and inter-agency coordination processes to evaluate their effectiveness during crisis situations.
Focus on Monsoon Preparedness in Nagpur
With the monsoon season approaching, the district administration has placed special emphasis on preventive planning and preparedness. Officials noted that several areas in the district are vulnerable to waterlogging, rising water levels in rivers and drains, and other water-related emergencies during periods of intense rainfall.
The administration emphasized that proactive disaster planning and preparedness are more effective than post-disaster response. Such mock drills help identify operational gaps and provide opportunities to strengthen emergency response mechanisms before an actual disaster occurs.
Strengthening Coordination Among Emergency Agencies
Officials said the joint exercise will further enhance coordination among different departments and improve their ability to deliver a swift, organized, and effective response during real emergencies. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring public safety and improving the overall efficiency of disaster management systems in Nagpur.
Senior Officials Present
The mock drill was attended by Tehsildar (City) Santosh Khandare, District Disaster Management Officer Ankush Gawande, Chief Fire Officer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation Tushar Barahate, Fire Officer Dilip Chavan, Chief Fire Officer of MIHAN and NMRDA Ganesh Khartamal, NDRF Police Inspector Mr. Mishra, Mr. Yadav, SDRF Police Inspector Mr. Chaudhary, and other senior officials.
