Nagpur: Hudkeshwar Police have exposed a fake robbery allegedly staged by a 28-year-old man to avoid repaying ₹2 lakh he had borrowed from a friend to start a café in Trimurti Nagar.

The complainant, a 28-year-old resident of Trimurti Nagar, approached Hudkeshwar Police on August 22, 2026, claiming that he was travelling through the Pyramid City area when an unidentified man allegedly sought a lift. According to his initial statement, the passenger threatened him with a knife, assaulted him and fled with his car. The complainant further claimed that ₹2.05 lakh in cash was kept inside the vehicle.

The car was later found in the Sonegaon police station area near the airport. The complainant told police that the cash had been stolen from the vehicle.

Considering the seriousness of the alleged robbery, Hudkeshwar Police began investigating the case. However, investigators noticed discrepancies between the reported sequence of events and the complainant’s version. He also reportedly provided different and contradictory information during questioning.

Police subsequently conducted a technical investigation and verified his claims. The investigation revealed that the alleged robbery had been fabricated.

During detailed questioning, the complainant reportedly confessed to staging the incident. According to police, he had borrowed ₹2 lakh from a friend to start a café in Trimurti Nagar and was under pressure to repay the money. As he did not have sufficient funds, he allegedly devised the fake robbery story in an attempt to avoid repaying the amount.

Hudkeshwar Police have exposed the fabricated robbery following the investigation. Police have appealed to citizens to provide accurate and truthful information while reporting incidents.

Police warned that deliberately misleading investigators, providing false information or fabricating a crime can lead to strict legal action.
