Mandya, Karnataka: A surprising discovery was made in Mandya after the death of 68 year old Hoor, a woman who had spent much of her life begging. Police and local residents found Rs 8.40 lakh in cash, stored inside more than 30 sacks at her home.
Hoor was found dead at her rented house in Mandya after reportedly suffering from an age related illness. Following her death, locals inspecting the house came across thousands of coins and currency notes, mostly in denominations of Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 50, carefully packed in sacks.
A video from the scene showed residents counting the money and going through her belongings. The unusual discovery quickly drew attention in the area.
According to local reports, Hoor had been living in the rented house with her sister, who died two years ago. Neither of the sisters was married.
After the counting was completed, the total amount came to Rs 8,40,000. The money was later handed over to her brothers. One brother reportedly took Rs 6 lakh, while the other received Rs 2.40 lakh, which he later donated to a mosque.
The incident has sparked curiosity in the area, both because of the large amount of cash found in the house and the modest life the woman had reportedly led.
