Nagpur: Pachpaoli Police have registered a case of cheating against a man accused of duping a woman of ₹4 lakh by promising her a government job in the Public Works Department (PWD) or the Income Tax Department.
According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Pravin Madan Sakhare (43), a resident of MHADA Colony, Kapil Nagar, Nagpur, who runs an office named DV Consultancy near Khobragade Hospital at Indora Chowk under the Pachpaoli police station limits.
The complainant, Moni Haridas Dahat (39), a resident of Naya Nagar, Rani Talav, New Kamptee, came in contact with the accused through a mutual friend.
Police said that between December 26, 2023, and December 4, 2025, Sakhare allegedly gained the complainant’s trust by claiming he could secure her a Lower Division Clerk (LDC) job in the PWD or the Income Tax Department.
The accused allegedly told her that ₹12 lakh would be required to secure the job. Believing his claims, the complainant paid him ₹6.60 lakh in cash and online transactions.
Investigations revealed that the accused, along with an associate identified as “Singh Sir” from Delhi, allegedly conspired to cheat the victim and even provided her with a fake appointment letter showing her selection as a Lower Division Clerk in the Income Tax Department in Delhi.
When the complainant later demanded her money back, the accused reportedly returned a portion of the amount but failed to return ₹4 lakh and did not provide the promised job, thereby cheating her.
Based on the complaint and subsequent inquiry, Sub-Inspector Gajanan Maind of Pachpaoli Police Station registered a case under Sections 316(2), 318(4), 336(3), 341(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
