Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit 3 of Nagpur Police has arrested a burglary accused and solved two criminal cases, including a house break-in and a vehicle theft, officials said.
The case dates back to January 18, 2026, when complainant Laxmi Prafull Tathode (29), a resident of Plot No. 25, MHADA Colony, Godhni Railway area, locked her house and went to work between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm.
During her absence, an unidentified thief allegedly broke the main door lock, entered the house, and broke open a locker inside an iron cupboard. The accused stole ₹15,800 in cash and gold and silver jewellery, taking away valuables worth ₹38,300.
Based on her complaint, Mankapur Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unknown person.
During the parallel investigation, officers of Crime Branch Unit 3 conducted technical analysis and traced the accused to Akshaykumar Dineshkumar Gupta (28), who was living on rent at Jawahar Nagar, Bhandara.
During interrogation, Gupta confessed that he committed the burglary along with his associate Anil Borkar (40), a resident of Shivaji Ward, Sakoli in Bhandara district, who is currently wanted in the case.
Further questioning revealed that Gupta was also involved in a motorcycle theft in the Yashodhara Nagar police station limits.
Police recovered a gold chain and a stolen Hero Splendor motorcycle (MH-31-DD-9287) from the accused, with the total seized property valued at ₹86,000. With this arrest, police have successfully solved two criminal cases.
The accused has been handed over to Mankapur Police Station for further legal action, and investigation is ongoing.
The action was led by Police Inspector Mahesh Sagale and his team from Crime Branch Unit 3.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil.
