Nagpur: A 40-year-old man was arrested by the Shantinagar Police Station for allegedly brandishing a deadly weapon and creating panic in a public place late Tuesday night.
According to police, at around 10.30 pm, a patrol team from Shantinagar Police Station noticed a crowd gathered at Ghat Chowk in the Shantinagar area. Upon inspection, officers found a man abusing passersby and shouting loudly while holding a knife. The accused attempted to flee on seeing the police but was chased and apprehended.
Police recovered an iron folding knife, commonly known as a ‘hattimar’ knife, valued at approximately ₹200 from his possession and disarmed him in the presence of panch witnesses. The accused was identified as Pradeep alias Chini Dhruvsing Thapa (40), a resident of Shantinagar Ghat, Nagpur.
Based on a complaint lodged by Police Constable Santosh Yadav, Sub-Inspector Komal Ubale registered an offence under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act for violating prohibitory orders. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
