Nagpur: A 43-year-old MahaDiscom lineman from Jaripatka allegedly lost ₹23.30 lakh after falling victim to an online forex investment scam in which a woman posing as an investment firm executive promised him a monthly income of ₹2 lakh for life.

The victim, Vijaykumar Kota, a resident of Jaideep Apartment on Nara Road, told police that he received a call from an unknown number on June 13. The caller introduced herself as Mona and claimed to be an executive of Proxtrend Investment.

According to the complaint, she persuaded Kota to invest USD 25,000 in foreign exchange trading involving multiple currencies, assuring him that the investment would generate a monthly income of ₹2 lakh throughout his lifetime.

To make the offer appear genuine, the fraudsters allegedly shared Telegram and Zoom links and directed him to a fake website. They gradually gained his confidence and induced him to transfer money through multiple transactions.

Kota allegedly paid a total of ₹23,30,243 before realising that he had been cheated.

Following his complaint, the Cyber police registered a case against unidentified persons under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is underway.
