Joint Operation by RPF and DRI Uncovers Gold Smuggling on Sanghamitra Express

Nagpur: In a coordinated effort, the Railway Protection Force’s (RPF) Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a gold smuggler on the 12296 Sanghamitra Express, seizing 787.86 grams of gold biscuits worth an estimated Rs 61.45 lakh. The raid, carried out at Nagpur railway station, followed a confidential alert from senior DRI intelligence officer V.L. Narasimha about potential gold smuggling on the train.


Railway sources confirmed that, acting on the tip-off, a search team was assembled under the guidance of RPF-CIB Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rajkumar Bharti, Mukesh Rathore, Ajay Singh, Jasvir Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Shyam Jhadoukar. The operation was led by DRI Nagpur Deputy Director Gaurav Meshram and senior officer V.L. Narasimha, who oversaw three joint teams in this synchronized operation.


As the Sanghamitra Express pulled into Platform No. 2, the teams swiftly conducted a search, focusing on Coach No. A-1. Based on a photograph, they located a passenger on Berth No. 35, who was subsequently identified as a resident of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 787.86 grams of gold biscuits concealed in his bag.
