Nagpur: In a bid to enhance air safety, Joint Commissioner of Police, Nisar Tamboli, has issued a preventive order under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, restricting the use of beam lights around Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. This order, effective from October 29, 2024, to December 27, 2024, applies within a 15-kilometer radius of the airport and is intended to prevent potential interference with aircraft operations.

The directive addresses concerns raised by pilots at the airport, who reported difficulties due to bright beam lights directed at the sky during nighttime events in nearby areas. Such lights can impair visibility, increasing the risk of accidents, especially as runway and ATC tower lights are crucial for guiding aircraft during take-off and landing at night.

According to the order, no individual or event organizer is permitted to use high-intensity beam lights directed toward the sky between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Violators of this order will face penalties under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023, along with other relevant laws.

The police department has emphasized that this measure is essential for ensuring the safety of all flights operating from the airport, including commercial and defense aircraft.
