Nagpur, October 13, 2025: With the festival of lights just around the corner, homes across Nagpur are abuzz with cleaning, painting, and preparations for Diwali. In view of this, Chief Engineer of MSEDCL’s Nagpur Circle, Dilip Dodke, has appealed to all electricity consumers to strictly follow safety precautions while decorating and illuminating their homes. He also extended heartfelt Diwali greetings to all consumers, employees, and well-wishers.

A Small Mistake Can Lead to Big Accidents

Festive decorations, lighting, and bursting of firecrackers often lead to unfortunate fire incidents every year, sometimes resulting in both property loss and injuries. Negligence and lack of safety awareness are often the main causes. To ensure a joyful and accident-free Diwali, MSEDCL has urged citizens to follow essential safety measures while handling electrical connections and lighting equipment.

Use Electricity Smartly and Wisely

The large-scale use of decorative lights during Diwali puts temporary pressure on the electricity system. Hence, MSEDCL has advised consumers to use power judiciously and only as needed. Energy-efficient LED lights, now widely available in the market, are recommended to control electricity consumption and reduce bills.

Only high-quality, ISI-marked decorative light strings and wires should be used for illumination.

Precautions During Cleaning and Painting

During festive cleaning and painting, special care must be taken to avoid electrical accidents. Switch off the main power supply before painting near switchboards or sockets. Ensure ladders used for painting do not come in contact with live wires. Always unplug electrical devices before cleaning, and use only dry cloths to clean switches and sockets — never wet ones.

If damaged wires, sockets, or burn marks are noticed, get them repaired immediately by a licensed electrician. Chewed or damaged wires, often caused by rodents, should be replaced promptly to prevent short circuits.

Safety Measures for Lighting and Firecrackers

Keep decorative lights away from curtains, bedding, fans, and main power lines. Ensure children are kept away from live wires and electrical equipment. Avoid overloading sockets by connecting multiple light strings or appliances to a single point.

Never burst firecrackers near electric poles, cables, or equipment. Fireworks should be done only in open areas with proper safety precautions. Dispose of used firecracker debris safely — not near electric installations or transformers.

MSEDCL Prepared for Uninterrupted Power Supply

To ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply during the festival, MSEDCL has directed all officers and staff to complete maintenance and repair works on power lines and equipment promptly. Employees in market areas have been instructed to stay alert to prevent electrical mishaps in crowded public places.

All divisional, sub-divisional, and branch officers have been instructed to remain on duty until the completion of Diwali and stay available at headquarters to monitor continuous supply.

Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke emphasized that by adhering to these simple but crucial safety measures, citizens can ensure a safe, joyous, and accident-free Diwali. He urged everyone to give top priority to electrical safety while enjoying the festival of lights.
