Nagpur: Shantinagar police have booked two men for allegedly cheating a 60-year-old woman by taking possession of her Toyota Fortuner SUV against a financial settlement, paying only a fraction of its value and subsequently handing it over to another person without her consent.

The complainant, Charu Ghanshyam Tijare (60), alleged that Riyaz Khan (60) and another man identified as Bhanja, both residents of Shantinagar, cheated her of the SUV valued at ₹5 lakh.

According to the complaint, Khan had incurred certain expenses on behalf of Tijare's husband and was seeking reimbursement. Trusting him, Tijare handed over her Toyota Fortuner (MH-20-CB-1717) towards settlement of the dues. However, Khan allegedly paid her only ₹50,000 and withheld the remaining amount.

The accused allegedly transferred the SUV to Parmanand Morayni, a resident of Pachpaoli, without obtaining the woman's permission. The vehicle was subsequently allegedly found to have been used in connection with a criminal offence registered at Khaparkheda police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The woman further alleged that Khan failed to pay the vehicle's loan instalments, leaving her to bear the financial liability despite having handed over the SUV.

The complaint also refers to an earlier business transaction involving scrap material between her husband and Khan around four years ago. The deal was reportedly cancelled after discrepancies emerged in the exchange of goods and payments.

Acting on the complaint, Shantinagar police registered a case against the two men under Sections 318(4), 316(2) and 3(5) of the BNS for alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust. Further investigation is underway.
