Nagpur: Nandanvan police have registered a case against a 40-year-old man for allegedly molesting his 10-year-old niece after luring her with the promise of showing cartoons on his mobile phone.

The accused is the husband of the complainant's sister and a resident of the Nandanvan slum area.

According to the police complaint, the incident took place around 5.30 pm on November 1. The accused allegedly called the minor girl close to him on the pretext of showing her cartoons on his mobile phone. He then allegedly made obscene remarks and touched her chest inappropriately.

The girl was reportedly distressed by the incident and returned home, where she narrated the ordeal to her mother. Subsequently, her mother approached Nandanvan police station and lodged a complaint.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 8, 10 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further investigation is underway.
