Nagpur: Hingna police have booked a 31-year-old man for allegedly stalking and sexually harassing a woman, threatening to malign her reputation and displaying her photographs along with defamatory messages under a tree in a bid to publicly humiliate her and her neighbour.
The accused, identified as Prashant Suresh Manwar, a resident of Prabuddha Nagar, allegedly became acquainted with the woman in January 2025 when he was working as a security guard at the Rural Hospital in Hingna, where her son was admitted.
According to the police complaint, Manwar initially developed a friendship with the woman and later told her that he liked her. He allegedly began repeatedly demanding sexual favours and stalking her. He also threatened to defame her and reportedly urged residents of her locality not to allow her to continue living there.
In a further attempt to tarnish her reputation, the accused allegedly put up photographs of the woman and her neighbor, under a tree, accompanied by defamatory messages. The act allegedly caused damage to the reputation and social standing of both individuals.
Following the woman's complaint, Hingna police registered a case against Manwar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
