Nagpur: Gittikhadan police have registered a case against a 56-year-old man for allegedly making defamatory and humiliating remarks about a 45-year-old woman during an interview on a YouTube news channel.
According to the complaint, the woman and the accused, Vijay Wamanrao Matte (56), a resident of Beltarodi, had jointly worked in the property business between 2005 and 2013 and had family relations.
The woman alleged that Matte cheated her in 2013, following which their relationship ended. She has since filed a case against him in the High Court, where the matter is reportedly pending.
According to the police complaint, the woman was at the residence of another woman in Hazari Pahad on July 26 when she allegedly came across an interview given by Matte to a YouTube channel.
Police said Matte allegedly took the woman’s name during the interview and made several derogatory allegations against her. He allegedly claimed that she had taken advantage of her identity as a Gond tribal woman to file false cases against him and called her a “blackmailer”. He also allegedly made offensive remarks about her personal life and made comments questioning allegations of sexual assault against her.
The complainant alleged that the remarks were made despite the accused being aware of her community identity and were intended to humiliate and defame her publicly.
Gittikhadan police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s) and 3(1)(w) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
