Nagpur: Nandanvan police have registered a case against a 22-year-old youth for allegedly misusing a 21-year-old woman’s photographs, creating fabricated images using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and circulating them on social media in an alleged attempt to defame her.

According to the complaint, the woman and the accused Sanket Bhogale (22), a resident of Ramna Maruti Chowk area, became acquainted during a cricket match and subsequently developed a friendship. They remained in contact through phone calls and WhatsApp chats.

Police said Bhogale later proposed a romantic relationship to the woman, but she rejected the proposal and told him that they should remain good friends.

The woman alleged that despite her refusal, the accused continued to harass and allegedly stalk her through social media platforms. She had earlier approached Nandanvan police with a complaint on August 17, 2026, and subsequently an NC was registered against him on August 22 after the alleged harassment continued.

According to the latest complaint, the accused allegedly uploaded photographs of the woman on social media without her permission and misused them. He allegedly used AI technology to create fabricated images of her, circulated them through social media and attempted to damage her reputation.

Nandanvan police registered a case under Sections 78(2) and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
