Nagpur: The Tehsil Police have registered a case against three youths for allegedly uploading an Instagram reel containing provocative statements that, according to police, challenged the authority of the police department and had the potential to disturb public order.
The FIR (Crime No. 374/2026) has been registered under Sections 352 (intentional insult), 356, 196, 353 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 66D of the Information Technology Act.
The accused have been identified as:
- Shahid Abjal Shakeel Khan (26)
- Mohammad Sahil Mohammad Shakeel Sheikh (24)
- Rizwan Mohammad Aziz (28)
The complaint was lodged by Police Sub-Inspector Rohan Shrikant Rane of Tehsil Police Station.
According to the FIR, the accused allegedly created and uploaded a reel on their Instagram account featuring the statement: “Police chowki ke hisaab se shehar baat rahe ho Sultan, chowk chahe police ki ho, shehar ke commissioner to hum hi log hai.” (Translation: “You may divide the city according to police outposts, Sultan, the square may belong to the police, but we are the commissioners of the city.”)
Police stated that the reel went viral on social media and projected an image that undermined the credibility and authority of the police force. The FIR further states that such content, circulated through digital platforms, amounts to a challenge to law enforcement and could create public resentment, disturb communal harmony and affect law and order.
The alleged offence took place between September 11, 2025 and July 16, 2026, with the information reaching Tehsil Police Station at 6.30 pm on Thursday. The case was formally registered at 7.27 pm.
Police said all three accused have been detained under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and placed in police lock-up. Preventive action against them will be initiated before they are produced as per legal procedure.
