Nagpur: A 65-year-old resident of Manish Nagar in Nagpur was allegedly cheated of ₹6.57 lakh by cyber fraudsters who posed as officials from the State Bank of India (SBI) Digital Pension Card Department. Beltarodi Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
According to the FIR, the complainant, Nandlal Ramchandra Parate (65), a resident of Prathamesh Apartment, Prerna Society, Manish Nagar, received a phone call from a person using mobile number 9366318289.
The caller introduced himself as Ajay Kumar Mishra, claiming to be a staff member of the SBI Digital Pension Card Department, SBI New Mumbai SRM. Police said the accused gained the complainant’s confidence by pretending to assist him with his digital pension card-related work.
After winning the victim’s trust, the fraudster allegedly manipulated him into providing banking details and, through various fraudulent methods, siphoned ₹6,57,000 from the complainant’s two SBI bank accounts in multiple transactions.
Realising he had been cheated, the senior citizen approached Beltarodi Police and lodged a complaint.
Based on the complaint, Beltarodi Police have registered an offence against unidentified accused under Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
Police are examining the mobile number, bank account details used in the fraud, and digital transaction trail to identify the accused.
Officials have advised citizens, especially senior citizens and pensioners, not to share banking credentials, OTPs, or personal financial information over phone calls. They also urged people to independently verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent a bank or government department before acting on such requests.
