Pre-Wedding Shoot Turns Costly: Andhra Pradesh Photographer Booked for Stealing ₹6.6 Lakh Camera Equipment from Colleague in Nagpur Hotel

Nagpur: Sonegaon Police have registered a case against a 46-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly stealing photography equipment worth ₹6.6 lakh from a fellow photographer after luring him to Nagpur on the pretext of a pre-wedding photoshoot.


According to the FIR, the complainant, Muralidhar Reddinayak Ghugalavat (40), a professional photographer from Nirmal district in Telangana, was introduced to the accused, Karthik Choudhary Akkineni (46), through their mutual acquaintance, Mohan Sagar.


Police said the accused contacted the complainant, claiming that he had secured a pre-wedding photography assignment in Nagpur and invited him to assist with the shoot. Acting on the invitation, the complainant travelled to Nagpur, and both checked into Hotel X at Somalwada on Wardha Road, where they stayed in the same room.


The incident allegedly occurred between 3 am and 2 pm on July 15. While the complainant was asleep, the accused allegedly stole the complainant’s camera bag containing expensive photography equipment and fled.


The stolen property includes:


  • Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max – ₹60,000
  • Oppo F21 mobile phone – ₹10,000
  • Sony R04 camera – ₹1.50 lakh
  • Canon R6 camera – ₹1.40 lakh
  • Eight Sony and Canon camera lenses – ₹3 lakh


The total value of the stolen items is estimated at ₹6.6 lakh.


Based on the complaint, Sonegaon Police have registered an offence under Section 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have launched a search to trace the accused and recover the stolen equipment.
