Nagpur: In a decisive crackdown, the Tehsil Police Station registered a case against nine persons for allegedly indulging in gambling activities on a residential terrace in Golibar Chowk area of Nagpur.
According to police sources, officers from the detection squad were on routine patrol within the jurisdiction when they received specific information that gambling was underway at the terrace of a house owned by Sanjay Hiraman Tumberikar (54), a resident of Tumberikar Mohalla, Golibar Chowk. Acting on the tip-off, a raid was conducted between 3.16 pm and 3.35 pm on February 15, 2026, in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the operation, police allegedly caught nine individuals red-handed while placing monetary bets on card games. The accused were identified as Sanjay Tumberikar (54), Vinod Narayan Nandanwar (48), Jitendra Kavduji Nandanwar (42), Manoj Ramaji Nimje (33), Hemraj Arjun Bajirao (48), Nitin Narayan Bhanarkar (40), Suryakant Gajanan Chakole (58), Harshad Gajanan Gadikar (43), and Kiran Narayan Nandanwar (47), all residents of different localities in Tehsil and adjoining areas of Nagpur.
Police seized cash worth Rs 3,800 along with playing cards and related gambling materials from the spot. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act at Tehsil Police Station. All the accused have been taken into custody along with the seized property, and further investigation is underway.
The action was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madne (Zone 3) and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anita More (Kotwali Division), along with Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mendhe and his team.
