Nagpur: A scuffle that broke out during a Valentine’s Day celebration at Raasta Club in Shivaji Nagar has prompted police intervention, with Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Nityanand Jha confirming that authorities are initiating suo motu action and have sought an explanation from the club management for allegedly failing to inform the police about the incident.

The altercation occurred late Saturday night within the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station when a verbal dispute between two groups reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation inside the premises. Eyewitnesses said partygoers were seen pushing and exchanging blows before staff members intervened to restore order. No grievous injuries were reported in the incident.

A video clip of the clash, purportedly recorded by attendees, has since surfaced on social media, triggering widespread concern over safety protocols at prominent nightlife venues. The footage shows chaos inside the establishment, raising questions about crowd control measures and the adequacy of on-site security arrangements.

Speaking on the matter, DCP Zone 2 Nityanand Jha stated that police have taken cognisance of the viral video and are proceeding with suo motu action. He further confirmed that a notice has been issued to Raasta Club seeking clarification on why the incident was not promptly reported to the police, as mandated under law.

The episode has reignited debate over safety at late-night events in the city, particularly in view of a past incident on Wardha Road where a minor altercation at a Christmas gathering had allegedly escalated into a double murder, sparking discussions on preventive policing and event management standards.

As of the time of reporting, no formal complaint had been lodged at Ambazari Police Station. However, officials indicated that further action would be taken based on inquiry findings and responses from the establishment.

Residents have called for stricter oversight of clubs and event venues, urging authorities to ensure robust security arrangements and immediate reporting of untoward incidents to prevent escalation into serious offences.
