Khaparkheda: As part of the Maharashtra Police Foundation Day celebrations, the Khaparkheda Police Station is observing Police Raising Day Week from January 2 to January 8 with various public outreach initiatives. Under this programme, students from Shankarrao Chavan English School, Khaparkheda, paid an educational visit to the police station on Thursday to gain first-hand insight into police functioning.
During the visit, students were introduced to the day-to-day working of the police station and were given detailed information about modern rifles, pistols and other weapons used by the police. Officers explained how these weapons function and how they are used for self-defence and maintaining law and order. The students showed keen interest while learning about police equipment, which helped demystify the fear and curiosity often associated with police stations.
The police station, usually perceived as a place of authority and fear, turned into a centre of learning and experience for the students. They were also briefed about the police station diary, FIR registration process, importance of legal documentation, arrangements for custody of accused persons and the methods followed during investigations.
The programme was successfully conducted under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Harish Rumkar of Khaparkheda Police Station. Officials highlighted that since the inclusion of Khaparkheda Police Station into the city police jurisdiction, operations have become more modern, and such initiatives are proving effective in strengthening police–citizen interaction.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Police Inspector Harish Rumkar said, “The objective of this initiative is to remove fear about the police from students’ minds and make them aware of law and public safety. Such interaction between the police and society is essential to shape responsible citizens of the future.”
The initiative was well received by students and teachers alike, marking a meaningful step towards community policing and youth engagement.
