Nagpur: Sitabuldi Police have registered a case against five people for allegedly holding an unauthorised protest in Nagpur against remarks attributed to BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranautconcerning students and youth.

The case was registered on July 30, 2026, following an alleged demonstration held between 1.30 pm and 2 pm on the road opposite Sitabuldi Metro Station.

According to the police complaint, the accused were allegedly associated with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Nagpur. Police said the group organised a gathering and staged a demonstration without obtaining prior permission or informing the police station.

The protest was allegedly held against what the complainants described as derogatory remarks made by Kangana Ranaut about students and young people, as well as against what the protesters alleged was an anti-student ideology of the Central Government.

Police alleged that the protesters also attempted to provoke the public through speeches during the demonstration.

The accused have been identified as Vaishnavi Gurudutt Bhardwaj (30), Ajit Prakash Singh (29), Nilesh Uttamrao Khorgade (40), Ashish Baliram Mandape (36), and Pranay Singh Thakur (27).

The Sitabuldi police registered the case under Sections 189(2), 189(3) and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.

Further investigation is underway.
