Nagpur: Sadar police have registered a case against a 76-year-old man for allegedly forging the signature and photograph of an elderly woman to prepare a fake sale agreement for her ancestral house valued at ₹4.11 crore.

The complainant, Suman Harkiran, a retired Income Tax Department employee from Amritsar Cantonment in Punjab, told police that she owns an ancestral house near Kasturba Library and Azad Chowk in Sadar. As she is elderly and has no close relatives to look after her, she had shifted to Amritsar to stay with relatives.

According to her complaint, the accused, Ashok Puri (76), a resident of Sadar, had expressed his willingness to purchase the house. Suman allegedly gave him time to arrange the payment. However, as he failed to pay the agreed amount, she subsequently negotiated the sale of the property with Bharat Kishor Lakhani, a partner of Premium Construction.

After learning about the proposed sale, Puri allegedly threatened Suman with legal action and filed Regular Civil Suit (RCS) No. 517/2026 against her.

During the proceedings, Puri allegedly submitted documents claiming that the house had been sold for ₹4.11 crore. The documents allegedly stated that ₹1 crore had been paid to Suman through a cheque and ₹11 lakh in cash.

Suman alleged that she noticed her photograph and a forged signature on the documents. She further alleged that Puri had used her photograph and fabricated her signature to prepare a fake sale agreement for the house and cheat her.

Based on her complaint, Sadar police registered a case under Sections 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), 338 and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),.
