Nagpur: Tension gripped Nagpur’s Shantinagar area late Wednesday night after a minor argument during Ganesh Mahaprasad turned violent at NIT Ground, Mudaliar Layout. The incident occurred on September 3 and was reported under Shantinagar Police Station limits.

According to police sources, devotees were partaking in Mahaprasad distribution when an argument erupted between members of the Muslim community and the group of devotees. The heated exchange soon escalated into a physical clash, prompting police to rush to the spot to control the situation.

Based on a complaint, police have registered a case of attempted murder against the accused individuals involved in the incident. Senior officers confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify all those responsible and to ensure law and order is maintained in the sensitive locality.

Heavy police deployment has been made in Shantinagar and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incident. Authorities have appealed to citizens to maintain peace and harmony during the festive period.
