Nagpur: Tragedy struck Sitabuldi on Wednesday night when a speeding truck rammed into a motorcycle at Samvidhan Square, killing a 57-year-old woman and injuring her husband.
According to police, complainant Bhojraj Jagannath Bhute (58), a resident of Patansawangi, was returning home with his wife Vanita after visiting a hospital and purchasing goods for his garment shop. Around 8 pm, as they passed through Samvidhan Square on their motorcycle (MH-40 SR 21), a truck (RJ-14 GT 6476) coming from behind hit them at high speed.
The impact threw Bhojraj off the vehicle with minor injuries, but the truck’s wheel ran over his wife Vanita, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Police have registered a case against the absconding truck driver under Sections 281, 106(1), and 125(A) BNS, along with Sections 184, 185, and 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The investigation is underway to trace and arrest the accused driver.
