Nagpur: In a heartwarming gesture of support, two young sisters who lost their mother in a fatal tiger attack in Sindewahi taluka were gifted bicycles by a social organization to help bring some joy into their lives after a devastating family tragedy.
The incident dates back to May 22, 2026, when four women from Gunjewahi village in Sindewahi taluka had gone into the forest to collect tendu leaves. During the activity, a tiger attacked the group, resulting in the deaths of all four women.
Among the victims was Sunita Mohurle, a widowed mother who was solely responsible for raising her two young daughters after the death of her husband several years ago. Following her death, the sisters were left orphaned and facing an uncertain future.
After learning about the family's plight, the Wildlife Welfare Society stayed in touch with the family and sought ways to support the children.
As a gesture of encouragement and care, the organization, in collaboration with Lanjewar Cycles, presented bicycles to both girls on Wednesday, June 3. The initiative aimed to bring a smile to the faces of the sisters and offer them practical assistance for their daily lives and education.
"We cannot erase the pain of losing their mother, but we wanted to make a small effort to bring happiness to their lives," members of the organization said during the event.
Representatives from the Wildlife Welfare Society, including Pankaj Badule, Gaurang Waikar, Dinesh Khate, Nitish Bhandakkar, Ashok Negi, Tushar Ghate, and Tanmay Zhire were present during the distribution. Also in attendance were Subhash Kamatwar and Forest Department Range Assistant P. S. Mankar.
The gesture has been widely appreciated by local residents, who said the bicycles would not only assist the girls in their daily commute but also serve as a symbol of community support during a difficult time.
