Nagpur: In a heartwarming initiative ahead of Diwali, the Nagpur City Police under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal organized a special programme to return seized property worth ₹48.36 lakh to their rightful owners. The event was held on October 15 at 6 pm at St. Ursula School, located near the District Collector’s Office in Civil Lines.
The ceremony was chaired by CP Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal in the presence of Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Rajendra Dabhade, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Nityanand Jha. Senior police inspectors from all police stations under Zone 2 were also present for the event.
As part of the programme, a total of 192 seized items valued at ₹48.36 lakh were handed over to their owners. The returned property included 16 vehicles, 6 gold ornaments, and 176 mobile phones, recovered through the Muddemaal Department and the Mobile Missing Squad of Zone 2. Describing it as a symbolic “Diwali gift” from the police to the citizens, officials said the initiative aimed to reinforce public confidence in law enforcement and highlight the department’s commitment to citizen welfare.
Along with the property return drive, the police also felicitated 13 Ganesh Mandals that actively participated in socially beneficial initiatives during the Ganesh festival. These mandals were recognised for organising DJ-free celebrations and promoting public awareness about major Nagpur Police campaigns such as Operation Thunder, Operation Shakti, and Operation U-Turn, which focus on anti-narcotics awareness, women’s safety, and traffic discipline respectively.
Sharing details of the initiative, DCP Zone 2 Nityanand Jha said, “We conducted an event in Zone 2 in which we returned 192 muddemaal worth ₹48.3 lakh in the presence of Hon’ble CP, Jt CP, and Addl CP North Region. Along with this, we also felicitated 13 Ganpati Mandals who performed social work during the festival and promoted awareness about various initiatives of Nagpur City Police such as Operation Thunder, Shakti, and U-Turn.”
The event reflected Nagpur Police’s growing emphasis on community policing and citizen engagement through goodwill gestures, especially during the festive season. Such initiatives, officers said, not only strengthen the bond between the police and the public but also set an example of how law enforcement can combine enforcement with empathy.
