Nagpur: In a horrific accident under the jurisdiction of Old Kamptee Police Station, a speeding tipper rammed into a triple-seat moped, dragging it for several meters and causing one death and serious injuries to two others.

The incident occurred on April 25, around 11:15 pm, when Pravin Daliram Pochpongle (24), along with his friends Saurav Vase and Shahrukh Khan, was returning to Kanhan after lunch in Kamptee. They were riding a Suzuki Burgman moped (MH-40-CW-7958). As they passed the Mahatma Phule Statue on Jabalpur Road, New Khalasi Line, a Tata tipper (MH-40-CW-9796) coming from behind, driven recklessly and at high speed, collided with their moped.

The impact caused the three riders to fall violently onto the road, and the moped got stuck in the front part of the tipper. Shockingly, the driver did not stop and dragged the moped along the road while trying to flee. Locals managed to intercept the vehicle near Kamsari Bazaar. However, the driver abandoned the tipper and fled from the spot.

The injured victims were rushed to Sub-District Hospital, Kamptee, while Shahrukh Khan (30), a resident of Kanhan-Parseoni, was referred to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Pravin Pochpongle and Saurav Vase are undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

Following a complaint by Pochpongle, Assistant Police Inspector Dubale registered a case under Sections 281, 106, 125 BNS and Sections 134, 187, 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused driver, Bhimkumar Indarchand Zharia (35), a native of Khairlanji, Seoni (Madhya Pradesh) and currently residing at Naka No. 2, Masala Road, Nagpur, was arrested. Further investigation is ongoing.
