Nagpur: In a significant achievement, the Nagpur Rural Police department secured the second rank in the state’s 100-day target initiative, launched by Maharashtra Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis in December 2024. The results, declared on May 1, reflect the department’s excellence in administrative efficiency and use of advanced technologies. In contrast, the Nagpur Police Commissionerate failed to make it to the top ranks.

The 100-day performance review was part of a state-wide initiative to enhance administrative effectiveness across various government departments. The assessment, conducted by the Quality Council of India, evaluated key parameters including website maintenance, workplace cleanliness, grievance redressal, administrative facilities, and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In the Superintendent of Police (SP) category, Palghar topped the chart with 90.29 points, while Nagpur Rural and Gadchiroli shared the second spot with 80 points each. Jalgaon (65.71) and Solapur (64) followed. In the Commissionerate category, Mira-Bhayandar, Thane, and Mumbai Railways occupied the top three positions.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Nagpur Zone, Dr. Dilip Bhujbal, praised the efforts of SP Harsh Poddar and the Nagpur Rural Police team during a press conference on May 2.

“This recognition is the result of tireless efforts and innovation by the rural police force. The use of AI platforms like MARVEL and Crime OS has significantly enhanced crime-solving capabilities and administrative operations,” said Dr. Bhujbal.

He explained that MARVEL includes advanced tools such as chatbot assistance, Call Detail Record (CDR), Internet Protocol Detail Record (IPDR), Tower Dump Record (TDR), and video analytics, while Crime OS supports FIR scrutiny, data analysis, and brief generation. Training for these systems is ongoing across all rural police stations, with at least one sub-inspector and one head constable being trained at each.

Nagpur Rural Police’s success in road safety was also spotlighted. In collaboration with the SaveLIFE Foundation, their efforts to curb road accidents have been recognized at the national level. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has selected them for a pilot project. On May 1, SP Poddar addressed the National Brainstorming Seminar on Road Safety Police 2025 as the keynote speaker.

Nagpur division also fared well in other categories. The Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of the Municipal Council scored 79.43 out of 100 to secure the second rank, while the Divisional Commissioner of Nagpur secured the third position with 62.29 points.

Despite the strong rural performance, the absence of Nagpur Police Commissionerate from the Home Department’s top performers list indicates room for significant improvement in urban policing standards.
