Nagpur: The Social Security Wing and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Nagpur Police seized 180 pieces of banned mono-kite nylon manja worth ₹5.40 lakh during a raid in Ekta Nagar under the jurisdiction of Yashodhara Nagar police station on Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap with the help of panch witnesses and staff between 8.30 pm and 10.10 pm on September 9. During the operation, they detained Mohammed Shahid Mohammed Saeed Ansari (27), a resident of near Sheetla Mata Temple in Yashodhara Nagar.
Police said Ansari was allegedly found illegally possessing and transporting the prohibited nylon manja with the intention of selling it. The seized material included 180 pieces of mono-kite nylon manja valued at ₹5.40 lakh.
Besides the banned manja, police also seized an e-rickshaw worth ₹1.20 lakh, a Suzuki moped valued at ₹75,000 and a Realme mobile phone worth ₹10,000. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹7.45 lakh.
Police have registered a case under Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, along with Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Another person, Faizan Ansari of Mominpura, is wanted in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
