Nagpur: Kotwali Police have registered a case against the user of an X (formerly Twitter) account for allegedly spreading false and misleading information claiming that thousands of students had surrounded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur.

According to the FIR, the complaint was lodged on behalf of the police by Police Head Constable Anil Ramaji Bodre (48), who is attached to the Intelligence Branch of Kotwali Police Station.

Police said that on July 24, 2026, at around 11.30 am, while on duty, the complainant came across a post on X from the account @cizhpuneet (display name: vizhpuneet), which read:

“Thousands of students surrounded the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. Time to show RSS that are fake nationalists and are rogues.”

Following the post, the Intelligence Branch conducted a preliminary verification and found that no such incident had taken place. Police stated that no gathering of thousands of students had surrounded the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and that the claim made in the social media post was false, misleading, and contrary to the actual facts.

The FIR further states that the RSS headquarters is a highly sensitive location in Nagpur city, and the circulation of such false information on social media had the potential to create fear, confusion, and tension among the public, which could have led to a law and order situation and disturbed public peace.

Police have alleged that the account holder knowingly and intentionally published false information despite being aware of the actual facts, thereby acting in a manner prejudicial to public order.

Based on the complaint, Kotwali Police registered Crime No. 165/2026 against the unidentified operator of the X account @cizhpuneet under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with other applicable legal provisions. An investigation is underway to identify the person operating the account and take further legal action.
