Nagpur: Nagpur City Police have launched Operation Thunder 2.0 after achieving a major breakthrough in their anti-narcotics campaign with the seizure of LSD drugs worth ₹1.70 lakh, officials said on Friday.

The action, carried out under the leadership of Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, marks a new phase in the city police’s intensified crackdown on illegal drug networks operating in Nagpur.

According to police, acting on specific intelligence inputs during a special combing and patrolling drive, a joint team of MIDC Police Station, Crime Branch officers, Anti-Narcotics Squad, Bhonsla unit personnel and women constables intercepted two suspicious persons near Bhadge Layout in Jaitala.

During the search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered 17 LSD dots weighing 0.170 grams. Officials also seized mobile phones and vehicles, taking the total value of the recovered property to ₹4.37 lakh.

Police said the two accused, both 22-year-old students residing in the MIDC area, were arrested on the spot. A third associate involved in the case has been identified and has been declared wanted.

A case has been registered at MIDC Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officials stated that Operation Thunder is based on the Triple AAA strategy — Alertness, Awareness and Action. The campaign includes intelligence-based enforcement, technology-driven surveillance, youth outreach programmes, campus monitoring and community participation.

With the launch of Operation Thunder 2.0, Nagpur Police said efforts against drug abuse and narcotics trafficking will be intensified further across the city.

“We are fully committed to safeguarding our youth from the menace of narcotics. Alertness, Awareness and Action will continue to guide every step of this mission,” said Commissioner Dr Singal.

Police have appealed to citizens, parents, teachers and students to actively support the campaign by sharing timely information, stating that public vigilance is essential to building a safer and drug-free Nagpur.
