Nagpur: In a significant step towards fuel conservation and sustainable governance, the Nagpur Police have decided to shift official meetings to virtual platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet, reducing unnecessary travel and fuel consumption. The initiative comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for energy conservation amid rising global fuel prices and growing supply concerns.
Acting on the directives of the Maharashtra government led by Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the city police administration under Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal has introduced a series of fuel-saving measures while ensuring that policing efficiency remains unaffected.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr Singal said all departmental meetings have now been moved online with immediate effect. He noted that the move would help save both fuel and valuable travel time for officers. However, he clarified that critical operations such as police patrolling, emergency response duties and investigation-related vehicle movement would continue without any restrictions.
The Commissioner further stated that while carpooling within the police force appears challenging due to varying duty schedules, emergency deployments and zonal responsibilities, the department is exploring other practical alternatives. Among them is encouraging police personnel to adopt cycling during evening hours, promoting both fuel conservation and healthier lifestyles.
The move aligns with broader efforts by the Central and State governments to reduce fuel consumption through measures such as limiting official convoys, encouraging public transport, promoting electric vehicles and exploring alternative fuels including methanol blending.
Nagpur Police’s proactive approach highlights how law enforcement agencies are adapting to sustainability goals while continuing to maintain public safety and operational readiness.
