Nagpur: In a bold move to tighten law enforcement and enhance on-ground policing, Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal conducted a surprise inspection at Pardi Police Station and the Symbiosis College vicinity on April 29, Monday night, from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. This marked his fourth consecutive day of surprise visits to police stations across the city.

The inspection began at Pardi Police Station, where the Commissioner found that the officers had failed to initiate the scheduled evening patrolling and surveillance of known offenders. Displeased with the lapse, he reprimanded the station in-charge for negligence.

Commissioner Singal then instructed all officers and staff to leave the premises and begin foot patrolling armed with batons. He personally led patrols in high-traffic areas including Pardi Bazaar, Hanuman Mandir Chowk, Prajapati Nagar, and Pune Road, issuing clear directives to check habitual offenders and initiate preventive action.

The Commissioner also reviewed the newly inaugurated Pardi Police Station under the Smart City Police initiative. He gave instructions on maintaining cleanliness and proper upkeep of furniture and infrastructure.

After his visit to Pardi, the Commissioner proceeded with his convoy to the Symbiosis College area following complaints of drug use, alcohol consumption, smoking, and unruly behavior in the vicinity. Near the Prajapati Metro Station, he spotted a group of youths loitering suspiciously. Without delay, he personally apprehended them and placed them in his official vehicle.

Before the action, he contacted the Wathoda Police Station officer via wireless to verify their location and summoned them to the Symbiosis area. The sudden inspection revealed several individuals drinking alcohol and creating a nuisance in a dark, isolated corner near the campus.

Six individuals were taken into custody and booked under Sections 110 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Those apprehended are:

  1. Piyush Devidas Kshirsagar (24), resident of PM Awas Yojana, Flat No. 306, Wathoda PS jurisdiction
  2. Aditya Vijay Yenurkar (21), Devi Nagar, Flat No. 45, near Kohinoor Lawn, Wathoda PS jurisdiction
  3. Santosh Kumar Sharda Ram, Devi Nagar, Plot No. 108, near Kohinoor Lawn, Wathoda PS jurisdiction
  4. Naman Yashwant Tyagi (19), currently residing at Symbiosis Hostel
  5. Aryan Ravi Nelwan (21), Symbiosis College Hostel
  6. Ankit Raju Bhoyar (25), Khapa, Tumsar Taluka, Bhandara District

The Commissioner’s personal involvement in both direct action and staff accountability has sparked discussions across Nagpur’s police circles. His commitment to ground-level oversight has also included prior crackdowns—suspending three officers from MIDC Police Station last week who were found absent without valid medical reason under ‘sick leave’. Following this, many such officers returned to duty.

Commissioner Singal reiterated that dereliction of duty will not be tolerated and warned of strict action against those misusing ‘sick’ status without justification. Reports have been sought on remaining absentees, and action is expected soon.

This hands-on approach, involving late-night inspections, direct suspect handling, and consistent follow-ups, reflects a shift from desk-bound leadership to active field engagement in the Nagpur Police force.
