Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Fire and Emergency Services Department on Tuesday, August 18, sealed a tuition centre near Jaripatka Police Station after finding violations of mandatory fire safety norms.
The action was carried out by a team from the Sugat Nagar Fire Station at Sai Academy Tuition Classes in Adarsh Colony, near Jaripatka Police Station. Officials took action under Section 8(3) of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, and sealed the building.
According to the fire department, the premises were being used for conducting tuition classes from the ground floor up to the third floor, while a tin shed had also been erected on the terrace and was being used as additional classrooms.
Officials found that the premises were being used in an unauthorised manner and that the required fire safety measures had not been implemented. The department said such violations could potentially endanger the lives of students and other people present inside the building, particularly in the event of a fire or other emergency.
The sealing action was undertaken as part of the NMC Fire and Emergency Services Department’s efforts to ensure effective implementation of fire safety measures and prevent risks to life in buildings being used for educational purposes.
