Nagpur: A 27-year-old man from Nagpur was allegedly cheated of ₹12 lakh after two persons promised to secure him a government job in the Indian Railways, police said.
Based on a complaint filed by Aman Dinesh Tawane, a resident of Mahal, Kotwali police registered a case against Seema Milind Kanpattewar, 44, and Gulshan Nagorao Tawane, who is the complainant’s cousin.
According to the complaint, Aman had appeared for the Technical Grade-I examination conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) in 2024 at Bhilai, Chhattisgarh.
During this period, his cousin Gulshan allegedly told him that he could help him secure a railway job if he was willing to pay ₹16 lakh. Gulshan reportedly introduced Aman to Seema, who allegedly assured him that she could arrange the railway job.
Trusting the accused, Aman allegedly paid them a total of ₹16 lakh. However, the promised job was not secured.
When Aman subsequently demanded his money back, the accused allegedly returned ₹4 lakh. The remaining ₹12 lakh was allegedly not returned, resulting in the complainant suffering a financial loss of ₹12 lakh.
Following his complaint, Kotwali police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions corresponding to cheating, forgery and use of forged documents.
Police are investigating the alleged recruitment scam and examining the financial transactions between the complainant and the accused.
