Nagpur: The Nagpur Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Squad arrested two men and seized 9 grams of Mephedrone (MD), two mobile phones and a scooter collectively worth ₹2.80 lakh during a late-night operation in Dharampeth.
The action was carried out between 11 pm on July 22 and 12:50 am on July 23 while the Anti-Narcotics Squad was patrolling under the Ambazari Police Station limits.
Based on credible information, police laid a trap near Computer Bhavan Sports Centre in Shivajinagar, Dharampeth, where they intercepted a Suzuki Burgman scooter carrying two suspects.
The accused have been identified as:
- Naved alias Nehav Ahmed Sheikh (26), a resident near Syed Baba Dargah, Wanjari Nagar, Nagpur.
- Lakhan Hemraj Hiranwar (21), a resident of Gawalipura, near Navayuvak Durga Mandal, Dharampeth, Nagpur.
A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 9 grams of MD (Mephedrone) packed in a zip-lock pouch.
Police seized the MD powder, two mobile phones and the Burgman scooter, with the total value of the seized property estimated at ₹2.80 lakh.
According to investigators, the duo was allegedly engaged in the exchange and sale of the narcotic substance for financial gain.
A case has been registered at Ambazari Police Station under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act. Both accused have been arrested and handed over to Ambazari Police for further investigation.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, DCP (Detection) Deepak Agrawal, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Vaibhav Jadhav, by a team led by Police Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar.
