Nagpur Crime Branch seizes liquor worth ₹11.20 lakh from Scorpio on Wardha-Nagpur Highway

Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit 1 of Nagpur Police seized liquor and other property worth ₹11.20 lakhand booked a 34-year-old man for allegedly transporting liquor illegally on the Wardha-Nagpur Highway.


The action was carried out between 9.30 pm and 10.50 pm on September 30, 2026, when officers and personnel of Crime Branch Unit 1 were patrolling while searching for criminals.


Acting on specific information that a silver-grey Scorpio was being used to illegally transport liquor from Wardha towards Nagpur, the police laid a trap near Sol Rooftop Hotel on the Nagpur-Wardha Highway, within the Hingna police station limits.


When the Scorpio bearing registration number MH 20 DJ 4740 was spotted, police intercepted the vehicle. During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, the driver identified himself as Yogesh Ganesh Akode (34), resident of Hudkeshwar, Nagpur.


Police found 1,000 bottles of Desi Bhingri Santra No. 1 packed in 10 boxes, along with 48 bottles of Royal Challenge (180 ml), 48 bottles of Magic Moments (180 ml), 96 bottles of Royal Stag (180 ml) and 96 bottles of Royal Stag (90 ml).


The seized property, including the liquor, a mobile phone and the Scorpio, was valued at ₹11,20,480.


A case has been registered against Akode at Hingna police station under Section 65(e) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. The accused and seized property were handed over to Hingna police for further investigation.
