Nagpur: The Anti-Land Mafia Squad of the Nagpur Crime Branch has busted an alleged illegal trade in stolen stone coal in New Kamptee and arrested five persons in connection with the case. Police seized 11,625 kg of stone coal, four two-wheelers, cash and other material worth around Rs 2.30 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the squad conducted a raid around 4 am on September 21, 2026, at Rahmat Exzin Firm in the Gada area on the road from Kamthi Railway Crossing towards Avandhi village. Police had received information that stolen coal was allegedly being illegally bought and sold at the firm.
During the raid, police found large quantities of stone coal stored inside the premises. Four persons were also found near the firm with four two-wheelers.
The accused were identified as Ahad Firoz Ahmed (19), a worker at the firm; Danish Mohammad Akram (28), the alleged owner of the firm; Chetan Ramesh Shendre (24); Kunal Harish Raut (27); and Atulsingh Abhimanyusingh (18).
During questioning, police alleged that Shendre, Raut and Atulsingh admitted to stealing coal from the Kanhan mine and bringing it to Akram’s firm for sale for financial gain.
Police seized 11,625 kg of stone coal, Rs 10,500 in cash, a weighing scale, four motorcycles and two mobile phones. The seized property has been valued at approximately Rs 2.30 lakh.
According to police, the accused were allegedly involved in stealing coal and selling it through illegal channels for financial gain. A case has been registered at New Kamptee Police Station under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused were arrested and handed over to New Kamptee police along with the seized material for further investigation.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, DCP (Detection) Deepak Agrawal and ACP (Crime Branch) Vaibhav Jadhav. The team included PI Sanjivani Thorat, Head Constables Bhagwat Wankhede and Mahesh Selokar, and police personnel Amar Ganvir and Rishikesh Jumde.
